I've always wanted to try a wide-band discone but installation opportunity was limited. After relocating and inspired by recent solar activity and other antenna building here I was shopping for a new scanner antenna. Enter the Tram 1411, while I did buy this antenna for receive usage I got a LOT more. Let's just go right to the NanoVNA..with 47'-50' of tandy mini-8 coax..for 11 Meters, 140mm extension of tuning tips. @26.77 MHz the SWR drops below 1:1.5 and moves to a low of 1:1.35 @26.98 MHz then rising to 1:1.9 @27.55 MHz and 1:2.5 @28MHz. For 2 Meter operations the match drops below 1:2 @111MHz to a low of 1:1.08 @ 134.44 MHz only rising to 1:1.5 @162MHz. The nano shows the next highest peak of 1:1.64 SWR @362.44 MHz, that's some great wide-band coverage. Further, the SWR maintains a 1:1.02 to 1:1.7 peak reading from 362-468MHz. Wow, I sure wish that I could design and build an antenna this good, but we can all own the low-cost Tram 1411. I hope this review helps in your consideration of this antenna, 73.
