A Japanese consumer electronics company founded on December 21, 1946 as Kasuga Radio Co. Ltd. in Komagane, Nagano Prefecture, Japan, and renamed Trio Corporation in 1960. The Kenwood brand name was created in 1963 for the American market, combining "Ken" (common to both Japan and North America) with "wood" (evoking Hollywood). In 1986, the company officially renamed itself Kenwood Corporation. In 2008, Kenwood merged with JVC to form JVCKenwood.
